Growth Of Amateur Radio Reflects Growth In The Community

L-R, SFL ACC Jeff Beals, WA4AW, PWARC President, Rob Pease, KS4EC, SFL SM, Sherri Brower, W4STB & SE Div. Director Frank Butler, W4RH.

February 9, 2005 -- South Florida Section Manager, Sherri Brower, W4STB presented a brand new ARRL Charter of Affiliation certificate to the Palms West ARC of Loxahatchee, Florida. The presentation was made during the SFL Section Forum at the Miami Hamboree, February 5, 2005. Accepting the Charter was Rob Pease, KS4EC, PWARC President. Palms West ARC is now the 49th ARRL Affiliated Club in the SFL Section.

The recently formed club is a direct result of the growth of Palm Beach County. As Palm Beach has grown so much in recent years so has their population of Amateur Radio operators. There are enough hams to support a club that will serve the suburban areas of the county.

PWARC is a general interest club with a diverse membership that will be available to mentor hams in all facets of Amateur Radio. Beginning in March 2005 the club will administer mentoring sessions for Amateur Radio Emergency Communications Certification Level I courses along with the course examinations. In addition to the ARECC courses the club will be sponsoring quarterly VE exam sessions in a continued effort to bring new hams to the hobby.

In the wake of the recent hurricanes that devastated Florida, its citizens have seen first hand how Amateur Radio can be a valuable resource in times of emergency. The club operates the 147.045 repeater in Royal Palm Beach and although they have a strong emphasis on EmComms the club is also about having fun.

Good luck and welcome aboard.
