Some Hams are REAL Clowns! Two members of the Western Illinois Amateur Radio Club had some fun recently when the ICOM Funmobile came to visit. |
With our start long ago, the Western Illinois Amateur Radio Club has been affiliated with the ARRL for most of our history. We have been recognized as a Special Service Club for more than a decade.
Our web site at http://www.qsl.net/w9awe offers a wide variety of club related news and information. We are a general service organization which addresses the varied interests of our members and the Amateur Radio community. License classes are held regularly, and licensing exams are conducted quarterly. Our group coordinates communications at local events such as the "Grand Prix of Karting." We also band together when disaster strikes, like we did in the Flood of 1993 and more recently during the tornadoes that struck Hamilton, Illinois and the Sheridan Swim Club.
Our Club maintains several local repeaters which are open to all area Amateur Radio operators; publishes a monthly newsletter; and meets monthly. We have a local PacketCluster node and digipeater to help foster various segments of the hobby. Members of our club participate in the local ARES net on Wednesday nights and often help with weather spotting activities in coordination with the NWS in St. Louis.
Additionally, we are very active in the administrative side of the hobby with comments filed with the FCC in regards to restructuring which were referenced in the final report and order issued by the FCC.
