The spotlight was on "ham radio" at Maker Faire. The Foothills Amateur Radio Society was the primary sponsor of the Amateur Radio exhibit, but volunteers from many participating ham radio clubs and other related groups -- including the Silicon Valley Amateur Television Group, the Palo Alto Amateur Radio Association, the Mad Scientist Amateur Radio Club, the Kings Mountain Amateur Radio Club, the Burlingame Red Cross, BAERS Ham Cram and Ham Radio Outlet were represented as well. The coordinating effort was lead by ARRL Santa Clara Valley Assistant Section Manager Michael Pechner, KI6QNZ, of Palo Alto.

Jack Sparx (also known as John Dyer, KJ6JD) builds Tesla coils, electric "art" and other science displays that have been exhibited around the country. A regular flow of willing visitors enjoyed a "shock" from Jack's Van de Graaff generator. This was Dyer's fourth year exhibiting at the San Mateo Maker Faire.
The busy "Maker Shed"--the official store for Maker Faire. This is where you'll find kits, shirts, and other cool things for makers and crafters.
Faire visitors could pick-up the latest copy of Make magazine at the Maker Shed store. Make magazine feeds the appetite of the do-it-yourselfer. Make is published by O'Reilly Media.
There were loads of hands-on opportunities at Maker Faire.
