Getting Ready to Say Hello!

Dec 18, 2006 15:35 ET
Katie Breen, W1KRB

Plans are rolling for this exciting event to celebrate 100 years of voice over radio!

Here at W1AW, there will be several folks on-air and we hope you'll stop on by the appropriate frequency and say....yes, you've got it! Hello!!!

Kicking off the operating event are Barbara Lombardi K1EIR on 17m; our CT Section Manager Betsy Doane, K1EIC on 40m; QST assistant editor and CT PIC Khrystyne Keane, K1SFA on 6 & 2m; and ARRL DXCC assistant Frankie Perez, KB1NQR on 20 m. Jonathan Allen, K2KKH will be on-air for a couple hours on 20 meters at 5pm.

At 7:30pm, you'll have 12 hours to try to QSO with one of our famous volunteer tour guides Bob Allison, WB1GCM who will be holding up the fort on 17m....help keep him awake for the night and talking!!! Also at that time, local DEC E. Jonathan Hardy KB1KIX will take over on 20m for a few hours.....please someone talk to him so he doesn't hang out and cause trouble!!! Jonathan is also pulling a 12 hour shift, but he's jumping over to 6,2 m as of 11pm.

Speaking of 11pm...that's when yours truly gets on the air on 40m. Along side us night owls is local retiring club president of the Newington Amateur Radio League Ron Cady, K1RKD. A funny story....at the NARL hamfest this summer, Ron told me that if we ever got married, my name would be kinda redundant - i'd be Katie Cady (get it?!!)...ok, well, i thought it was funny!!

Well, thank goodness for the early birds! Showing up Saturday morning at 7am to provide relief are ARRL Lab Guru Mike Tracy, KC1SX along with Mark Harris, K1MSH, Cody Harris, KB1NKU and Edwin Rhodes, KB1GXR.

And of course, we can't forget the big guns of the weekend that will be on-site and on-air throughout the event. W1AW station Manager, Joe Carcia, NJ1Q and Public Relations Manager Alan Pitts, W1AGP.

Thank you to everyone that will be participating. This blog will be up and running throughout the event - we'll post photos of us on the air and maybe just hanging around too!! You never know what might show up! Please write, send notes, and most importantly....

GET ON THE AIR!!!!

Talk with you soon!

Katie, W1KRB
