    K4WW -- Feb 18, 2006 08:38 ET

The "ever increasing" activity, in RTTY contests, makes for "few and far between" periods of inactivity. My compliments to 99.9% of the participants on their ability to remain courteous, while being competetive! -- K4WW

    9A5CW -- Feb 1, 2006 09:12 ET

Great contest with good activity, congrats to F6IRF for his FB score. For the first time I have used 2 radio setup, IC735 and TS440s, i had lot of fun playing so2r... The big mistake was that i used old WF1B software which is not good for so2r, 2XPC with WF1B...so i had problems with serial numbers... this is my best score in this contest, in the year 2002 i was 2nd in WW with 9A7P callsign, but probably this will not happen this time :)

    Antenna farm on 9A1P is : 80m Vertical, 40m 3 el. full size yagi, 20m 5 el. OWA yagi, 15m 6el. OWA, 10m 6 el OWA yagi.

Thanks to all and USA stations for QSO, 73 de Patrik

    F6IRF -- Jan 24, 2006 07:19 ET

The 2el steppIR... my second antenna.

The main antenna (OB6-3M) and the 40/80 dipoles

After the disapointing 2005 attempt (did not manage to enter the top-ten in HP category), I decided to try something else... so why not LP; better be at max allowed power in LP than at 1/3 of the max allowed HP power! Started on 20m, but the band was closing and many W-stations could not copy me (too busy working each others), so bad start... Got better after 2200z, when 40m came to life, but it did not last... However passed 400 before going to bed, which was not too bad, and finaly the activity helping and conditions improving, I managed to pass the 1000 Q's mark after 19h30 of airtime. (1hour more than it took me during the last JARTS, but not too bad for LP!)... Looking at others scores, get the feeling that North and East located EU-stations, did not get the same kind of conditions... So at the end, and though I was not expecting a score, the result is quite successfull compaired to last year: more qso's, more countries and more states making a 55% points increase. Maybe a new EU-LP record, so a good weekend !

Graphical stats and photos on my blog http://f6irf.blogspot.com/

Also for the fist time, I have put a few audio clips online, demonstrating how you boost a slow going LP-run with SO2R, while keeping never more than 1 signal on the air (but almost always 1 signal on the air!).

Hope you enjoy it... Thanks all for the QSO's and cu soon on the bands ! Patrick -- F6IRF

    W8JWN -- Jan 23, 2006 13:45 ET

I tried SO2R, low power for the first time. Well, that experiment lasted only one hour! I wasted the first hour trying to decode with the second radio, my old TS-830S, on 15 meters. I must have called some guys 10-20 times and never made a contact! Meanwhile, on my FT1000MP on 20 meters, I managed to work only five stations. I was using the 500 MHz filter and had the IF Shift messed up! This was not the start I anticipated. So, I stayed on the MP the entire contest. I worked 23 hours and had some good runs on 40 meters Sunday afternoon. I should have spent more time on 80 meters Saturday night but the QRN and some line noise at this QTH drove me off.

N1MM Logger worked flawlessly. Hopefully, in the future, I can get this SO2R business down and improve my score. I ordered band pass filters before the contest and they still haven't arrived! Of course, they weren't needed this time. -- W8JWN

    PJ2T -- Jan 21, 2006 15:41 ET

WB9Z fueling the generator at PJ2T

The RU was more like Field Day this year than a RTTY Contest.

A large part of Curacao lost commerical power on Friday night and was still off Saturday morning. Rumors around the island sounded like a sub-station had caught fire and we would be lucky to have power at all over the weekend.

Fortunately, Geoff W0CG and the Caribbean Contesting Consortium have a nice portable generator there. I decided to run Low Power and conserve generator fuel, it was probably a good idea as the commerical power was not available for most of the weekend.

The conditons were great, and I was very pleased to make 1,549 contacts on Low Power. I was especially pleased with the numbers on 15 and 40 meters.

But, it just goes to show how good the PJ2T antenna farm and location really are.

You can see more of the PJ2T station at www.pj2t.org

    AI4ME -- Jan 14, 2006 21:02 ET

This was my first contest ever. Oh, sure I participated in Field Day in 2005, but I was just a Tech back then! I was just playing with the computer and the radio interface trying to get MMTTY to work and what should I find? The band is filled with RTTY!

I went to ARRL website, read the rules, and then proceeded to fumble my way through getting into the contest. Imagine trying to learn how to jump on a moving train as its rolling along! I may only have achieved 70 contacts using only 50 watts, but the whole experience for this new Ham from learning about the contest, how to do RTTY, complete the logs and upload them was a great experience. Thank you for all those whom I did manage to make contact with!

See you next year in the ARRL RTTY Round Up! -- AI4ME

    N0IU -- Jan 14, 2006 15:48 ET

ARS N0IU consists of an ICOM 756 PRO and a Cushcraft R7 vertical plus other odds and ends too numerous to mention!

A number of other obligations kept me from operating full time, but I did manager to give out a few points! This was the first year I went "dash-less" by giving my exchange as 599 MO MO instead of 599-MO-MO. I know the jury is still out on this, so I hope everyone I worked was able to copy me FB. -- N0IU
