Upcoming Contests – Things to Do

CQ World Wide WPX Contest – CW

 

One of the most anticipated CW events of the year, the CQ World Wide WPX Contest – CW, begins at 0000 UTC on Saturday, May 24, and concludes at 2359 on Sunday, May 25. Single Operator stations may operate for 36 of the 48-hour contest period. Off times must be a minimum of 60 minutes during which no contacts are logged. Multioperator stations may operate for the full 48 hours. Complete rules are available at .

2025 Inductees to the Contest Hall of Fame

 

On Saturday May 17, three new members were inducted into the Contest Hall of Fame at the Dayton Contest Dinner, held at the Hope Hotel in Dayton, Ohio. The new inductees are Pat Barkey, N9RV; John Laney III, K4BAI and Uli Weiss, DJ2YA. The Contest Hall of Fame was established in 1986 to recognize those amateurs who have made major contributions to the art of radio competition. Please congratulate the 2025 inductees on their achievements and giving back to the sport of amateur radio. More information can be found at .

Phil Koch, K3UA, Announced as New CW Sprint Manager

 

North American Sprint CW Manager, Ward Silver, N0AX, has decided to take a break after seven years of service. In addition to managing the CW Sprint, Ward has been one of the key people doing behind-the-scenes work to improve the efficiency, timeliness and quality of Sprint reporting in National Contest Journal (NCJ) and on the website.

 

NCJ editor John Pescatore, K3TN, has announced that Phil Koch, K3UA, a veteran Sprint operator, has volunteered to take over the role vacated by Ward starting with the September results.

KL9A 2025 Dayton Contest Dinner Speech

 

Tim Duffy, K3LR shared video of Chris Hurlbut’s, KL9A, keynote speech at the 2025 Dayton Hamvention Contest banquet. Chris has been a ham since he was 10 years old and he’s been fortunate enough to operate from some of the best contest stations in the world. He was a World Radiosport Team Championship (WRTC) competitor in 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2018.
