The Ellwood City Amateur Radio Association is looking forward to a great year in 2001. We meet on the first Sunday of each month at the Tree of Life Wellness Center in Ewing Park, just outside of Ellwood City, PA. The second and fourth Sundays of each month are for license classes. The third Sunday of each month is our technical class, taught by Butch McGee, K3YO. Butch is currently covering all the different modes of operation in detail.

Jim, N3ZJM; Paul, N3ZZI and Keith, KB3DAW at the Ellwood City Hospital on January 1, 2000. The hospital asked us to stand by in case of any Y2K problems.

Tuesday is our net night. The first Tuesday of each month at 8:00 PM we hold our Emergency Communications net. Each Tuesday at 8:30 PM is our 2-Meter net. Both of these are on 145.170 MHz (100Hz PL). At 9:00 PM is our 10-Meter Rag Chew net on 28.435. We are also working on starting up a YL net in the near future on 2 meters.

Our repeater is located atop the Ellwood City Hospital, and we are currently working with the hospital's disaster management to provide emergency communications for them when the need arises. We're scheduled to participate in their disaster drill this coming Spring.

We are a very active club all year long, but our main fundraiser is over the 4th of July weekend at the Ellwood City Arts and Crafts Festival. We sponsor a food booth, selling hot dogs, fries, and meatball sandwiches. We also sponsor an Amateur Radio demonstration booth. This booth contains information on different areas of Amateur Radio, emergency services and SKYWARN. We also have a Special Event station operating for all three days of the festival. It is estimated that over 60,000 people visit this event each year. We are a family oriented club, and our children are welcome at all of our events.
