TO HOLD A PC BOARD, YOU CAN USE A THIRD HAND CONSISTING OF A WEIGHTED BASE AND CLIPS ON MOVABLE ARMS. MANY AMATEURS USE A LARGE DESK LAMP FOR ILLUMINATION, AND PERHAPS A LARGE MAGNIFYING LENS ON AN ARM TO ALLOW BETTER VISIBILITY OF TINY COMPONENTS. THERE ARE SEVERAL COMPONENTS THAT HAVE ONE LEAD SOLDERED TO THE GROUND PLANE. TO MAKE THIS CONNECTION, THE BOARD USES A VERY SMALL BARE COPPER PAD AND CARE MUST BE TAKEN THAT YOUR SOLDER MELTS TO THESE SMALL PADS. EVERYTHING FITS NEATLY WITH A LITTLE EXTRA PUSHING TO MOUNT THE TWO VARIABLE RESISTORS. WHEN PLACED PROPERLY, THEY CLICK INTO THEIR MOUNTING HOLES. THE FILTER WORKS AS A WINDOW IF YOU USE A MODERN RECEIVER OR TRANSCEIVER, AT TIMES YOU PROBABLY REDUCE INTERFERENCE FROM AN ADJACENT SIGNAL BY ALTERING THE PLACEMENT OF THE SIDE OF THE SELECTED FILTER USING PASSBAND TUNING OR A SIMILAR CONTROL. TODAYS KIT PACIFIC ANTENNA DEVELOPED THE EASY AUDIO BANDPASS FILTER KIT AS A COMPANION TO THE 40 METER EASY RECEIVER KIT REVIEWED IN DECEMBER 2016 QST. THE RECEIVER BANDPASS IS QUITE BROAD, AND SOME SORT OF FILTERING IS USEFUL FOR SEPARATING SIGNALS ON THE BAND. THE KIT ALSO INCLUDES AN AUDIO AMPLIFIER THAT WILL DRIVE HEADPHONES OR A SPEAKER. FIGURE 6 SHOWS THE ASSEMBLED KIT. IT CONSISTS OF A 2N5088 BJT BIPOLAR JUNCTION TRANSISTOR INPUT STAGE WITH A 100 RESISTOR AS THE LOAD TO THE AUDIO SOURCE. THE NEXT STAGE USES A LF356 OPERATIONAL AMPLIFIER IN A STANDARD FILTER CONFIGURATION VERY CLOSE TO THAT SHOWN IN SEVERAL EDITIONS OF THE ARRL HANDBOOK. THE PASSBAND IS A FIXED VALUE, SPECIFIED AT PPROXIMATELY 500 HZ. THE CENTER FREQUENCY IS VARIABLE OVER 300 HZ TO 2 KHZ, WITH A POTENTIOMETER CONTROLLING THE BANDPASS LOCATION. FOLLOWING THE FILTER STAGE IS A VOLUME CONTROL AND A CONVENTIONAL 386 AUDIO INTEGRATED CIRCUIT. IT HAS ENOUGH POWER TO DRIVE A SMALL SPEAKER. FOUR SETS OF COPPER PADS PROVIDE CONNECTIONS TO THE INPUT, OUTPUT, AND SUPPLY VOLTAGE 9 12 V DC. AS WITH THE RECEIVER KIT, ITS UP TO THE BUILDER TO PROVIDE AN ENCLOSURE IF DESIRED.
