    By Dave Mello, W1DGM

    September 17, 2001

What have we been up to lately? This new feature is a periodic update on what the ARRL staff and volunteers are doing on behalf of ARRL members. This installment covers mid-August to mid-September 2001.

--Gerald Hill, KH6HU, has been chosen as coordinator of the ARRL Amateur Radio Education Project (aka The Big Project). His experience in the education field includes curriculum development, assisting teachers in implementing standards in the classroom, grant writing, and a school-to-work program.

--Dave Condon, KI7YP, mentor for the student members of the Lake Washington HAM Club, KC7OIO, at Franklin Elementary School in Kirkland, Washington, recently received a second ARRL Progress Grant. Also see October QST, p 49 (sidebar).

--The ARRL Satellite workshop at the ARRL Southwestern Division Convention September 7 in Riverside, California was a big hit. Fifty-seven people had pre-registered, but a total of 71 attended the course.
