This week, Surfin' visits Web sites that encourage you to recount your adventures in ham radio.
Bob Green, W8JYZ, recently wrote that he is looking for help from the ham community. His Web site -- QSL Cards from the Past -- has a section dedicated to tributes to hams -- both living and dead -- called respectively, "Living Hams Who Have Made Notable Contributions to Our Hobby" and "Gone, but Not Forgotten." He hopes that more tributes will be sent in by others who feel the need to contribute stories of their ham radio friends, families or Elmers.
There are many stories waiting to be told about hams from all walks of life who spent their time in the our hobby contributing to their communities, their radio clubs or just enjoying being a part of ham radio history. So visit Bob's Web site, read some of our stories and tributes and then get busy writing about your favorite ham or Elmer. You can e-mail your stories to W8JYZ.
Another Web site that is looking for stories is Cliff Cheng's, AC6C, Novice Historical Society Web site. There you can read the adventures and anecdotes about being a Novice ham radio operator and you are welcome to submit your own stories to add to the collection.
I just reread my story on Cliff's Web site and laughed to myself about how green I was back then. I really was a "novice" in more than one way.
By the way, truth be told, Surfin' has mentioned the Web sites of W8JYZ and AC6C a few times in the past (here, here and here).
