    The Amateur Radio Crossword Puzzler

    By H. Ward Silver, N0AX
    May 2, 2004

With a receiver, it's not so much what you hear that makes a good one, but what you don't hear! A crossword entitled "Good Fences Make Good Neighbors" narrows the passband a bit.

What keeps us from being overwhelmed by all the other signals and noise sources is filters. This quiz gently prods your memory and knowledge of these important receiver components. No peaking!

Ward "The Attenuator" Silver, N0AX, authors--among numerous other things--the Amateur Radio Crossword Puzzler, which appears twice a month on the ARRL Web site. He can be reached by e-mail at n0ax@arrl.net or by surface mail at Aetherworks Publishing, 22916 107th Ave NW, Vashon, WA, 98070.
