    Monthly Section News Summaries

    Monthly Summary for October 2009

    Delaware Section Monthly Summary

    Thanksgiving

As we wind down the year here it is Thanksgiving time again. We in the
Delaware Section have much to be thankful for. This year we were blessed with
having very little in the way of nasty weather to deal with, in fact the
entire eastern seaboard and gulf coast were spared significant hurricane
    activity this season.

Recently in October and November we did encounter back to back north-eastern
storms that did cause some concern for members living close to the ocean and
low lying areas along the Delaware coast.

The last storm had the governor declare a state of emergency in Kent and
Sussex Counties and Amateur Radio did play a role as eyes and ears for local
    emergency management.

Bill Duveneck KB3KYH provided me with the following report:
    Frank,
Here is the list of Amateurs who participated in the Nov 12 ARES Storm Net.
We were operational for twenty-two hours straight. Some of our ARES members
handled several hours at a stretch as NCS and others worked multiple shifts.
In all, I was very proud of our team. They stepped up and provided the NCS,
the structure, as well as the information reporting required of us by the
EOC. In all, 43 Amateur stations including 29 Sussex County ARES members
    supported the mission.
