    Monthly Section News Summaries

    Monthly Summary for October 2009

Kansas Section News Summary- October 2009

KBØUOE- Chuck Jentzsch of LaCygne is now a Silent Key.
    ______________________________________________

Debbie-ABØUY and Dan-NØZIZ received Public Service Honor Roll certificates
at the Johnson County A.R.E.S. meeting. Both Debbie and Dan had surpassed the
    requirements some time ago.

SHARC has 4 members on Packet now. Sam WØOQG is now on
that mode and looking for a place to install a node in the Sand Hills.

Valley Center/Wichita hamfest again was well attended. VFW ARC had a booth
this year and everyone was in good spirits. Derby Radio Shack and D&L were
both kept busy. I was surprised to see Warner-NØSKV a former Kansan that had
gone permanent rover a few years ago.

Several groups participated in the J.O.T.A. This year I was with the group
West of Hutchinson at Camp Kanza. Harvey-ACØEG put that program together.

Johnson County RAC held their annual club auction at the Ensor Farm and Museum
later than usual. The event included the Marshall Ensor Special Event station
operated by Santa Fe Trail club members, KCØBS helping with APRS set ups and
since this was Halloween the day wrapped up with a scary picture show. A
couple of the features were familiar and for copy right reasons we’ll call
them The Gray Zone. Brian-KCØBS filled in as auctioneer at the last minute
when the professional had to cancel for medical reasons. The chicken house,
as usual, was the hub of activity.
WØDEW brought out his new transceiver for field trial and set up a station in
one end of the chicken house.

Maybe the best part was the food. N2FNK’s Son smoked up some pulled pork
that was served by his Mom for lunch and John-WØBBQ brought out his barbecue
contest rig (20 ft outfitted trailer) for breakfast and dinner.
This was a great event and both the clubs involved, museum and area hams
    benefitted from this outing.

October 3rd eight MAARS club members provided communications
support for the Wamego Yellow Brick Road bike ride, a benefit for the
WAM-SAG-MAN (WAMego-SAint George-MANhattan) trail and part of the
    OZtoberFest.
Sylvia-KCØYJO put the ham side of things together.

The RVARC (Republican Valley Amateur Radio Club) helped coordinate a
2-mile/10K run (part of the Clay Center Piotique Festival) in September.
    Fifteen club members and
3 other local hams worked the event. Shawn-KCØTQZ and Doyle-WBØSRP coordinated
the communications. Thanks to Clay County AEC Tom-ACØMJ for the report.

November Rpt. from the desk of KØBXF

Follows report of ARES activity Kansas Section for the month of September
    2009:
517 total members registered. 17 EC Zones reporting: 84 net sessions for the
    month,
574 Check ins to the nets and 17 messages handled,

Missing reports from 6 of 7 EC in DIST 1, 3 of 7 EC in DIST 2, 3 of 6 EC
     DIST 3, 5 of 9 EC DIST 4, 2 of 9 EC in DIST 5 and 5 of 7 EC in DIST 6.
Should be able to double our output effort if we could have all EC Zone
    reporting.

A lot of discussion floating around causing a lot of mis- conceptions about
certain types of ham operation. Everyone should keep abreast of what is going
on and what is about to take place. Your hobby just might be in jeopardy.
    73 for now,
Bob Summers KØBXF ARRL SEC KS
