Affiliated Club was chartered. The New Orleans Amateur Radio Club was
presented its charter by Jim N5NVP at the New Orleans Hamfest on October 3.

LOUISIANA SECTION FLOWER FUND: Virginia Bryant KD5DJA has volunteered to
receive, account for and disburse funds to send flowers to the funerals of
Louisiana Section member SKs on behalf of the Section. If you would like to
participate (and I hope that you would) please send a check payable to
Louisiana Section Flower Fund to Virginia at 110 HERRING ST
LEESVILLE, LA 71446. Virginia’s data is good on QRZ. She has already
received several donations of $25 - $50. The accounting of this fund will
appear here on a quarterly basis. Also, please remember to report SKs to me
    at K5GLS@arrl.org.

LOUISIANA MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP: The window for application for the
scholarship is now open. Please encourage any licensed entering or attending
student to apply for this scholarship. Details are available on the ARRL
    Website.

OTHER NEWS: If you wish to have noteworthy information about club activities,
individual achievements, etc. included in the Section Summary please send
    them to k5gls@arrl.org.

LIONEL OUBRE EMERGENCY DISPATCH CENTER – Located in New Iberia, LA, was
dedicated to one of our own. The Iberia Parish communications center was
dedicated to Lionel (Al) Oubre K5DPG (SK). Al was the Louisiana Section
Manager prior to Mickey Cox K5MC. He was an inspiration to all who knew him
and was a great friend and mentor to both Mickey and me. Al certainly
deserved this great recognition for his work with Iberia Parish and the
    Louisiana Section.

LOUISIANA SECTION WEBSITE – Many thanks to Ken Standard AD5XJ for his great
work redesigning our Section website http://www.laarrl.org. Please go to the
site and checkout all the information and links. Send any suggestions or
    comments to AD5XJ@arrl.net.

BAYOULAND EMERGENCY AMATEUR RADIO SERVICE – BEARS celebrates its 25th year of
operation this year. They just received their new call W5BMC. They wanted
Kelo Five Morgan City, but couldn’t talk Mickey into giving it up!
Congratulations to BEARS on this milestone.

HAMFESTS – Both the Pineville and New Orleans hamfests were great successes.
Keith W5KB reports that the New Orleans fest will continue next year after
    the great turnout.

U.S. COAST GUARD AUXILIARY RADIO DAY will be commemorating the 70th
anniversary of the USCG Auxiliary on Amateur HF frequencies Saturday October
17, 2009. Special Event Stations will be using a special 1X1 call. For info
    go to http://a0530407.uscgaux.info/SED 2009.html.
