    Monthly Summary for October 2009

This report covers Mid October to mid November 2009.
It is with deep regret that we report the passing of Fred Benardella, KH6FI.
He was an active member of BIARC and a DXer. While he was active on almost
all bands, he especially favored six meters where he worked all states and 50
plus countries. He passed away Thursday November 12 at the Yukio Okutsu
State VA Home in Hilo where he died after a long bought with cancer. He was
    64. Memorial service will be 6 pm Wednesday November 18 at the Puna
Congregational Church in Keaau in which he and his wife Helen were active.
He was first licensed in 1959 as WA2HFI and received KH6FI in August 2004.

    EMCOMM:
At the moment the central Pacific doesn’t have any major storm activity
however a storm started in the Eastern Pacific and made is way across parts
of Central America, the Caribbean, some southern states and is finally
finishing by dumping its remnants across the eastern US. The message
    is”stay prepared”.

    ACTIVITIES:
The Marianas Amateur Radio Club is having its annual Christmas Party on
Saturday December 5th. The party is a potluck. The highlight of the evening
is the gift exchange. If you would like to participate, the suggested value
is around $15.00. Be as silly or serious as you want. Bring your family and
friends and spend the evening socializing. The party will be in place of the
December meeting. It will be at the KSTO Studio on Nimitz Hill at 6PM.
Please RSVP to Amy Martin at ajm@uam.net . At the last meeting of the
Marianas Amateur Radio Club K3UOC led the club in a discussion of the WH2M
initiative to lobby the Guam Legislature to exempt Ham Radio from the ban on
mobile communications devices. Let us hope they are successful. The
