This summary only contains a few of the highlights of recent activity in the
WV Section. Please refer to our WV Section ARRL website for additional and
    more in depth coverage.
    >> Bad weather probably was a factor in attendance at Fayetteville Hamfest.
Otherwise, a good time was still had by all who braved the elements.
    >> Charleston Hamfest is on for March 15 and I am looking forward to seeing
many folks from around the state. Please stop by our ARRL booth and plan to
attend the ARRL & ARES Forum.
    >> SEC Mac, W8XF and I traveled to Lewisburg for SWVARAI meeting in February.
Much enthusiasm with this group and am hoping they will soon become an ARRL
Affiliated Club. Thanks to Prez. Connie, KB8TEI; Paul, KD8WY; Joe, ND4B and
SWVARAI members for the invite and hospitality. If you ever get over that way,
check out the first class Emergency Comm. Center that the city of Lewisburg
    has provided for these folks!
    >> Harrison Co. EC J.R. Chiado, WJ8G became a SK last month leaving a legacy
of successes as well as many friends in the Clarksburg and No. Central WV
    region.
    >> Mac, W8XF announces leadership positions in ARES organization including:
Dirk, WD8PAD as WV Training Coordinator; Tina, K8TAC as SKYWARN Liaison; Gail,
AB8S- EC Mason Co.; David, N8YPE-- EC Harrison Co.
    >> Level I EmComm Classes are underway in Clarksburg for the Stonewall Jackson
ARA and Barbour County Area ARC. These are being conducted by Dirk, WD8PAD.
Also EmComm Level I classes for the Mid-Ohio Valley ARC by Gail, AB8S. Gail
also advises that Mason County ARES now has a website at:
    http://pageproducer.ohiohills.com/hodges/masoncoarc.html
    >> Governor Wise delcared emergency from snow and rain last month and Mountain
State Emergency Net was activated. Kudos to ops Jim Steele, W8HPD; Ab Starr,
N8IBK and Bobby Lucas, AF4PQ for their participation and public service during
    this situation.
    >> Recent EmComm Level I graduates include Mac, W8XF and Bill, KC8RXQ.
Congrats guys! We now have 31 Level I folks in WV and are targeting 100 by
    year-end.
    >> Update from Dave, KC8MSM President of the Barbour Co. Area ARC saying the
club is working closely with Barbour County Commission and county's
Comm.Center with purchase and installation of new radio gear, power supply,
antenna and accessories. Dave says the director is making it SOP for
dispatchers to hold amateur radio licenses! The club will be working with
    them make it happen.
    >> The WV DX Association is back on the books after a long absence and is WV's
newest ARRL Affiliated Club. Thanks to Clark, W8TN for making this happen.
    >> Dave, WA8WV announces WV QSO Party set for June 14 and rules for 2003 are
finalized with a few changes made from last year's "new and improved" version.
Changes can be found on our WV section websites.
    >> I received a nice message from ARRL Lab Supervisor Ed Hare, W1RFI following
last month's plea for ARRL membership efforts. Ed's piece is worth the read as
he relates the true value of a League membership.
