Log Submissions for ARRL Contests

ARRL Contest Branch · Electronic Log Receipt Confirmation

Electronic Submissions via e-mail

Files in the required Cabrillo format may be emailed directly to the contest robot for that contest at the appropriate e-mail address.

The Subject of the email must contain ONLY the participant's callsign, such as: SUBJECT: W1HQ (Don't use the example, please use your own callsign.) Do not include anything extraneous to the callsign such as contest name or category, the file extension of the log file (.txt or .cbr for example). Anything other than the callsign will cause your entry to be returned.

If the robot finds no problems, it will return a numbered receipt. You should keep this receipt as proof of submission.

If the robot finds an error or problem it will return an email to you citing the problem and suggested corrections. You may re-submit the file to the robot with corrections as needed. Until you have a numbered receipt, you do not have a file in the queue for processing. If you find an error in your file after you have received a numbered receipt, simply re-submit the corrected file to the robot. Your previous file will be updated.

Send files only in the Cabrillo format. We cannot use old style .sum, .dup or other file types. Sending these files will cause the robot to return your entry indicating an error.

Word processor files, spread sheet files, zipped files and other files such as the BIN, QDF or PRN files produced by some of the logging programs are not readable by the robot and can not be processed.

Logs must be emailed within 30 days of the end of the contest.

NOTES:

  • A complete explanation of the Cabrillo file format can be found in the November, 2000 issue of QST (79,086 bytes, PDF File)

  • The complete specs for the Cabrillo format, including sample Headers and QSO lines can be found here.
  • Submissions via the Web

If your logging program does not output the required Cabrillo format or if you log by hand, you may submit via special web applications found at: http://b4h.net/cabforms/

These applets allow you to input all of the required information for each contest -- both summary sheet information and individual QSO information. Once the data entry is finished, the applet will then submit the entry to the proper email address in the required format. It will also send an email copy to you for your records.

Web applet submissions must be completed within 30 days of the end of the contest.

Confirmation of Logs Received by Contest

The Logs Received page lists all received electronic submissions by contest. These lists are automatically updated several times during the day. It is not "instantaneous" so it may be several hours before the list is next updated. If you submitted your entry electronically and do not find your log listed, first please check to see that you received back a numbered receipt from the ARRL Contest Robot. If you have a numbered receipt and your log does not appear within several hours, please contact contests@arrl.org with your receipt number and they will look into the matter during regular ARRL business hours.

    Electronic Submissions via Mail

You may send your Cabrillo file to the ARRL on a 3 ½"disk, CD or DVD via regular mail carrier. Please make sure that the disk or other medium is not damaged and has been properly formatted. These disks may be mailed to ARRL Contest Branch, 225 Main St, Newington, CT 06111

    Paper Submissions

While we strongly encourage you to submit paper logs electronically using the www.b4h.net/cabforms web applet, we still accept hand written paper logs. A paper printout of an electronically produced log is not acceptable.

A paper submission must use an up-to-date summary sheet. Please do not use old forms. Only the most current summary sheet will contain the information about the latest multipliers, categories and other changes. Please either type or write the information legibly.

Paper logs of 200 QSOs or more must include a dupe sheet -- an alphanumeric list of stations (callsigns) worked, separated by band.

Paper entries may be mailed to: ARRL, 225 Main St, Newington, CT 06111 and must be postmarked within 30 days after the end of the contest.
