The 2018 DX Contest announcement published in the Dec. 2017 issue of QST (page 96) included mention of the "sold out" 2017 ARRL DX contest pins, but made no mention if they were going to be available for the 2018 contest. The 2018 rules posted at the following link makes no mention of the pins either. Have they been discontinued in the 2018 contest?

Hello Clark, due to waning interest, at present there is no plans to make pins available for 2018 and thereafter. Volume drives cost, and with only a few dozen pins ordered in 2017 - and after several ARRL Letter blasts - interest was very low. Thanks for participating! 73 Bart W9JJ

That's too bad; they were the only reason why I participated in the DX contest. I hope the SS pins don't go the same way (or I won't bother with SS either).

Also disappointed. I understand the volume/cost equation, but just charge enough to cover the costs. Those of us who want them will pay a bit extra.

I to am not pleased. Just found out. If the ARRL continues on this path, I might just out last the ARRL. Cost should not be an issue. Several ham events offer pins from $5 to $20 yearly and do not find it a problem.

Just found this conversation and wanted to add my disappointment about the discontinuation of the pin. That has always been the main reason for all these years that I participated in this event. Soo bummed!!!

Very disappointed that this is happening, I also have been participating for many years, mainly to make sure I obtain a Pin.
If the pins are pre-ordered and paid for by the ones that want one, then cost should not be an issue.

Hello All, Although I'm dismayed too, being smart with money large or small matters. That said, I would like the 2018 pin to go with my other pins. May I make a suggestion for those of us that "really" want a pin. What is the cost of 40 pins? We split the cost and do this going forward, with the under standing that if only 2 orders come in that either the 2 split the cost 50/50 or the 2 donate their checks to ARRL learning fund. There has to be a way to get a pin for the ones that want one. We are Amateur Radio operators and this is just another type of disaster that we should be able to fix.
