Fox-1A (AO-85) Transponder to be Unavailable October 19-23

10/18/2015

The Fox-1A (AO-85) CubeSat transponder will be unavailable for general use from October 19 until October 23 while the new satellite undergoes additional commissioning and testing. The AO-85 U/V transponder has been available to users for much of the time since Fox-1A launched on October 8, and it has proved very popular.

“While this operational plan resulted in increased data for AMSAT engineering evaluation, we have some necessary tests to complete that require limiting access for a short period,” said Drew Glasbrenner, KO4MA. “We will be characterizing the uplink and downlink signals, and developing an updated set of recommendations for minimal equipment and best operating practices.”

Satellite enthusiasts should avoid transmitting to the satellite, even if they hear the transponder on. Users are encouraged to collect and forward AO-85 telemetry via the FoxTelem program and to share this information with other operators as needed.

“Cooperation will expedite this testing and the return to normal operations,” Glasbrenner said. — Thanks to AMSAT News Service
