G5RV on 10 Meters

My recently installed G5RV works great on all bands except 10 meters. On 10 it has a 3-1+ SWR. Is this something obvious? Any help will be appreciated.

The G5RV is not the best 10 meter antenna, even when the SWR is lower.

This analysis predicts an SWR of 5 and an efficiency under 10%

As a rough rule of thumb, you are doing really well with an efficiency over 80%

25% might be considered typical for multiband antenna.

At 10% you may want to consider other options.

Hmmm, I must of been lucky. My g5rv lite works great with a relatively (tuned) flat swr on 10, 20, 40, and I even tuned 6 meters. I cannot get 12, 15, or 17 to tune at all. It's in an inverted v on the roof with a 1 to 1 bulun attached.

Yes, with a bit of luck or trial and error with the feedline length you can usually get it to tune on 10 meters. But, this doesn't fix the feedline loss issue--it will still be high. When conditions are really good this may not matter--like this past weekend in which I was able to work 250 stations on 10 meters running 100 watts to a half wave dipole in the ARRL DX CW contest. I even got called by a couple of QRP stations!

But, if you can put up another antenna, a 10M dipole would work significantly better than a G5RV on 10 meters.

I have the same problem with the G5RV on 10 meters, However I have made a lot of contacts and get good signal reports. W5BUB
