Chimney Mount

I'm thinking of mounting my Diamond CR320 antenna on a chimney mount set up. A friend says that I shouldn't because it would melt the coax. I see a lot of these mounts used for TVs. Is this something I should really be concerned over? |

If your chimney is made of brick and has internal ceramic flue pipes, then you could use such a mount without fear of melting coax. However,, the chimney must be in excellent physical condition before mounting an antenna in it. Antennas tend to be rough on chimneys during wind storms, so the condition of the chimney must be monitored frequently. Also, check with your local zoning laws to see if such an installation is allowed. I have heard that due to safety considerations (falling brick), chimney mounts are no longer allowed in new installations. |
