Hi all,

Just earned my Technician license last month and am listening to local nets each week. I want to check in as a visitor as I get used to communicating on the air, and when they ask for visitors to check in alphabetically (e.g., alpha to hotel), I can't tell yet if it's alphabetical by call sign, alphabetical by first name, etc. I don't want to jump in when I'm not supposed to. What's the protocol?

Thank you,
K. Spencer Holmes

It really depends on the net. For example, our local Net does it by last letter of the callsign in 3 groups, A-I;J-R andS-Z. Some do it by first letter of Callsign. Contact the ham that is doing Net Control, or contact the Nets manager for how that net does it, and WELCOME!
