Hi, I am new to ham and I getting my equipment on order. I am totally torn on the antenna. I cannot get a solid answer on what to buy. I did think a vertical without radials would be the best solution. Some say it does not work well, but it appears many mount their antenna too low to give it positive results. A multiband end-fed dipole is my other alternative, but I am getting mixed opinions.. Any help on sorting things out is appreciated.

I'd use a dipole if I can get it at least 30 feet up in the air inexpensively with trees or similar supports. A vertical is generally the better option if you have no existing supports and the antenna needs to be self supporting.
