ARES Stands Down in Alberta, Canada; Hams Commended

06/24/2013

Radio Amateurs of Canada (RAC) Alberta Section Emergency Coordinator Curtis Bidulock, VE6AEW, has announced that ARES support in the aftermath of flooding in Southern Alberta has stood down. “ARES will remain on standby during the recovery process in the event of a communication failure and are called out,” he said in announcing the termination of the ARES activation. “The temporary link between the SARA provincial linking system and the VE6HAT Medicine Hat Elkwater repeater will remain in place until recovery operations are complete. Please keep the system clear for Medicine Hat traffic as priority and all other traffic as secondary.” Bidulock expressed appreciation to all operators who “provided countless volunteer hours to support the served agencies with priority and emergency traffic. It has been expressed by AEMA [Alberta Emergency Management Agency] that without our capability to deploy and adapt it would have made this disaster much more difficult to manage.”
