Hurricane Watch Net Activated for Hurricane Tomas

Earlier this morning, the Hurricane Watch Net (HWN) activated in advance of Hurricane Tomas, currently a Category 1 storm. HWN members are monitoring 14.325 MHz in support of WX4NHC, the Amateur Radio Station at the National Hurricane Center (NHC). As of 2 PM (EDT) on Friday, November 5, Tomas is located about 75 miles southeast of Guantanamo, Cuba and about 140 miles northwest of Port-au-Prince, Haiti; it is moving north-northeast at 12 MPH. Hurricane warnings are in effect for Haiti, the Cuban province of Guantanamo, the Southeastern Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos islands. According to the NHC, tropical cyclone formation is not expected until Sunday, if at all.
