CRSA Requests Clear Frequencies Following Earthquake

04/16/2010

The Chinese Radio Sports Association (CRSA) has requested that 7.050 and 7.060 MHz be kept clear to allow for emergency communications (at times when there might be propagation to the affected area) following the 7.1 earthquake in the Yu Shu District, Qinghai Province on April 13. A team of Chinese amateurs are already active in supporting the rescue and recovery efforts; on April 15, they flew to Qinghai to deliver communications equipment and provide communications support. Almost 1200 people are confirmed dead, at least are 10,000 injured and thousands of families are homeless. According to The Daily DX, water, electricity and other infrastructures have been cut. At this time of year, temperatures in Yu Shu -- a high plateau area -- fall to -5 degrees Celsius at night, hampering rescue efforts and making the need for shelter important.
