10/28/2014

Glen Popiel, KW5GP, author of the newly released ARRL publication Arduino for Ham Radio will be the featured guest on a webcast on Thursday, October 30, at 0100 UTC by Tom Medlin, W5KUB. Arduino devices are powerful and inexpensive microcontrollers, and they are an easy way for radio amateurs, students, and professionals to create devices that interact with their environment through sensors and actuators. Popiel will discuss the Arduino and its many applications and demonstrate projects from his book.

His projects include a random code practice generator, an Iambic keyer, a waveform generator, a digital compass, a weather station, a Field Day satellite tracker, a CW decoder, a lightning detector and a “talking” SWR meter.

The webcast will be available via the W5KUB website and will originate from Medlin’s station. A telephone line will be available for viewers to ask questions or discuss their own Arduino projects with the guest and with other radio amateurs around the world.

Viewers can win prizes, including autographed copies of Arduino for Ham Radio and some Arduino items donated by Glen Popiel. To be eligible for prizes, participants must have a registered chat room login account on W5KUB.COM. (users should click on the “Live Events and Chat Room” link to log in or to set up a new account).
