2019 ARRL Straight Key Night
This was the first SKN where I dared take my shakyCW out for a rag chew. I used a J38 key from my novice days and managed to contact AE6C in Fremont, across SF bay, who was using a single tube transmitter with some chirp and a Collins receiver. The chirp made me learn how to listen to imperfect signals, somewhat like the contest op from ARĀ I worked several contests ago whose CW drawled . We had a nice chat.
(Contests are a lot easier than rag chews. The vocabulary is smaller.)
I lurked for a number of other QSOs, including one where the op was trying to tame a bug which was transmitting too fast. It was like listening to Farnsworth CW practice and very easy to interpret.
