2019 ARRL Straight Key Night
For SKN this year I made it my goal to make at least 1 QSO with each of the straight keys that I could scrounge up. That ended up being 8 keys and 8 QSOs, and even included a key from a toy telegraph set from the 1960's. All of my QSOs were on 40-meters and at QRP. Here is the complete key lineup:
- Codemaster Toy Key from the 1960's
- Homebrew Hacksaw Key
- 1941 J-5-A Signal Corps Flameproof Key
- Cheap Radio Shack Plastic Practice Key
- SKCC Marconi Key
- Speed-X Key
- Antique Strap Key made at the University of Michigan
- Whiterook MK-11 Micro Key
The Codemaster toy key was actually not too bad to use but that Whiterook micro key was very stiff and difficult to operate. That QSO certainly didn't produce any "good fist" comments!
