2019 ARRL June VHF Contest
Six-meter CW/SSB activity was surprisingly good, with at least 9 hours of sporadic-E conditions over the weekend. The band was open to W4, 8, 9, and 0 when the contest started Saurday afternoon. Over the next two hours, I ran more than 200 QSOs, about half my eventual total. An hour later, six meters abuptly closed, but opened for another two-hour session later that evening.
Six meters had already come to life next morning about 7:00 AM and scattered E-skip persisted for another three hours or so. The band was quiet all afternoon until early evening, when widely scattered stations from Minnesota to Florida could be worked. Some midwesterners were quite strong at times and skip shortened up considerably. I picked up a handful of double-hop grids from Oregon to Arizona and New Mexico during this final opening, but thought conditions could have supported many more CW and SSB QSOs.
W3EP FN31, KW and 6-element Yagi. All QSOs CW or SSB.
