2019 School Club Roundup (Fall)
Pinson Valley High School Amateur Radio Club operated the School Club Round Up again this year celebrating the one year anniversary of our permanent school club station and a recent major upgrade which added satellite communications to our station. The week of School Club Round Up was a challenging week for us with one of our teachers off campus for meetings for two days, a short school week, and one stormy day. We were unable to operate one evening due to all after school events being canceled because of inclement weather. SCR week was a short week for our students because the last day was a teacher workday. Despite the conflicts during SCR week, our students really enjoyed working the School Club Round Up.
“The School Club Roundup is an amazing opportunity that allows us to speak to people around the world. Not only that, but we get to help our school with a fun competition which is very exciting to me. Technology is very unique and useful in so many incredible ways. School Club Roundup has really given me the chance to learn what I really like to do.” - Jazmin
“Talking to other people on the radio was really amazing. I did not know how radios worked except for radios that you can listen to or walkie talkies. It is amazing that we could talk to people around the country just by radio waves. I was very surprised to learn that is the same way a cell phone works and this has been around a long time before cell phones.” -A.J.
