2020 ARRL Straight Key Night
My Dad was the original W2NTN, and I requested his callsign when he became a silent key. My straight key for SKN 2020 is my Dad’s first key, which I believe is a Signal Electric Company key he used in approximately 1941. Gary N2OT and I who were originally licensed together as WN2EPP and WN2EPQ, thought it would be fun to start the new decade with a SKN contact with each other. It was a challenge, but Gary dug my weak signal from our old tiny breadboard one transistor QRP oscillator transmitter, out of the noise on 80 meters. The setup, including a very old crystal which is bigger in its FT-171-B holder than the transmitter, is shown in the photo. The IC-746PRO in the background served as my receiver, and my sidetone monitor. Happy New Year from N2OT and W2NTN!
