2021 ARRL Field Day
This was the year I tried for an all-homebrew Field Day. I set up in our conveniently-empty wood crib. It saved pitching a tent or shade shelter. A single support line up 60 feet let me change temporary antennas with ease. That was the theory. [The breadboard on the right is for 80M- a band I wouldn't get to use.]
5:30AM Sunday: It was light enough out to change to the 80M antenna. The support line wouldn't budge. I managed to get the 40M antenna down...in several non-repairable pieces. The support line is still up there somewhere. I stuck with 20M for the balance of Field Day and did pretty for 5W, a battery and a jury-rigged 20M vertical.
I also got stung as I was breaking down the station. All in all- it was 'par for the course' for Field Day. Had a great time- can't wait for next year!
