2022 ARRL Straight Key Night
Happy New Year!
This was my first official SKN in a very long time after missing several years. I decided to leave the classic boatanchor rigs alone and fire up my old homebrew 2-tube 6L6 transmitter xtal bound to 3.550 and 7.055. With about 10 watts I had surprising results and some really great ragchew QSOs.
In the log (All 1/1/2022):
Fred, KE4Q (FL) - 7.055Mc 0039z. Jerry, W5AJD (LA) - 7.055Mc 0055z. Ed, K3BVQ (PA) - 3.550Mc 0125z. Jeff, AA9WJ (IN) - 3.550Mc 0230z. Ed, WB8CFO (OH) - 3.550Mc 0314z and John, KD2BD (NJ) - 7.055Mc 1938z .
All of my QSO were memorable but John, KD2BD, resonates the most after learning we were both communicating on homebrew transmitters. John had an exceptional fist and was transmitting solid state while I was transmitting hollow state.
My Station consisted of the 6L6GC transmitter and my ever reliable Speed-X junker key. Receiver; Icom-R75. Antennas: 40 meter 1/4 wave vertical, 160 full-wave skyloop and SAL-12 LF-HF directional receive loop .Transmitter photo attached.
I had a lot of fun operating SKN for 2022 and as an added bonus, I was able to receive WI2XLQ on 486 KHz the same evening listening to the rebroadcast of Reginal Fessenden's commemorative Christmas Eve transmission.
Happy New Year es 73,
