2002 ARRL November Sweepstakes (Phone)

11/19/2002 | W0WOB/M KJ and KJ took Mikes Ford van from Colby in nwKS for 2.75 hours to near Beloit in ncKS, to join WOs big SS Multi. The J Twins needed to get home in good time, so we left the others at 5PM Sunday for the drive back. With 5 ops to share the duties at WO, we werent totally mind-numbed from the workout, and turned on Mikes FT-100D and ATS-100 to liven up the drive home. We got some astonished compliments on our mobile signal at least on 15. Results on 20 were good and ok on 40. That rig/ant pair seems to have karma out of proportion to its diminuitive size.

On the drive Saturday morning we worked K6LL and fretted with Dave over prospects for disturbed SS geomag conditions. Well, after having swept out at Alans before midnight, we shouldnt have been shocked to work ND WY AK PAC and YU x2 on the homeward trip, but.... WOW. Worked 103 Qs before reaching home.

K0BJ ran the mic and paper-logged, while K0FJ tuned and piloted. We attempted to mental-dupe, and must apologize to those we called twice. We gave out "A" precedence but realized after a while we were a multi entry. The callsign is the Trojan ARCs, and used to belong to Chief Engineer Vern Weatherman Snider at KXXX.

Western KS is pretty flat so it was nice having our lil Second SS to accompany us home. The Solomon River meanders along US 24s route and hey, it actually has water in it here and there, which brings out the wildlife. We appreciate all the drive safe wishes we got from ops, as we had quick slowdowns to avoid a deer and a possum. Anybody notice the Doppler shift? 73 -- K0BJ
