My station is hidden here in WMA, so I knew that I could be a rarity. I also figured that I would get my butt kicked by K1TTT and friends up in Peru, Mass, but I have yet to see the score. Early sunday morning, I was running down on 15, worked a NTX, thought to myself, "I need LAX for the sweep." Don't get me wrong, LAX is no rarity. For some reason they hadn't found me yet...but just as I thought that, came a "Kilowatt Number Six! King Six! King Six!" He was weak, but I needed the six. Would it be LAX? He shouted his exchange. The copy was bad. He had to be LAX. "I didn't get the section, section, section, please!" He came back. I will never forget the two words I caught: "...Alpha X-ray...."
I HAD THE SWEEP!
With it under my belt for the first time, I was excited. On later inspection, however, it would turn out that I forgot to put the break on and the beam was pointed north the whole time! I can't wait for next year! -- KB1FWN
