2003 ARRL International DX Contest (CW)
I used the FT-817 set to 2.5 Watts output and my number in the contest was 3. My antenna was a 2 element mini Yagi MFB-23 from Fritzel designed for 10m, 15m and 20m adjusted to the ssb part of the bands, 11 m high. The effective radiated power (ERP) was calculated with all the losses from antenna tuner Z-11, coaxial cable , connectors, coaxial switch and the antenna gain and was best at about 7.5 watts on 10m-band.
On 40 m I used a Windom antenna FD-3, 8m high. Similar calculations brought an ERP of about 4 watts.
Also on my side I had to be very patient, hearing the competing stations with the numbers for their power: KW, 700, 500, 100, 50, 10, and again KW, 500, etc.. Some stations I was able to contact on my first attempt, others I had to try it up to 15 times.
Again many thanks from Ferdi, DJ3GE (on the air since 1956, not only qrp) -- DJ3GE
