2003 ARRL International DX Contest (CW)
I ran into a stray RF problem on 20M that created havoc for my PC. It's really difficult to run stations at 30wpm using a paddle for any length of time. I did have some good runs on 10 and 15M this year. The most intersting momment was during the final 10 minutes of the contest. I was on 15M with the beam pointed due south looking for multipliers. Tuning high in the band I encountered a massive pileup for LZ0A. There was only about 8 minutes left. I thought it would be impossible to get through such a big pileup. I figured out where he was listening and sent my call quickly at 30 wpm. No response. Then I transmitted up 50 KHz, then 75 KHz. He called N1? then N1D? I got him at 100KHz up from his frequency at 2355 UTC. I broke through one of the biggest pileups I've heard in a while with 80W and a 4 element Yagi. This last multiplier # 273 pushed my score past 800,000. Many thanks to the Op at LZ0A with good ears! Special thanks to all the stations that answered my CQ and the many QRP stations that kept trying in heavy QRM. 73 de Rick Member Yankee Clipper Contest Club QTH Braintree MA -- N1DC
