2003 ARRL January VHF Sweepstakes
The intrepid US Rovers activated 14 grids in the frigid midwest this time around, ranging from the balmy St. Louis metro area on the south, to the frozen tundra of Green Bay up north. The Chicago-area-based team operated all bands from 6 meters through 2304, and laser.
The picture shows the crew, basking in the gentle Wisconsin breeze, in a farm field in EN53. Wendell, N9REP, is on the left; Phil, KF9US, is on the right. The wind chill at the time was approximately -20 degrees F.
Thanks to all of the operators who took the time to pull our microwave signals out of the noise, and the other rover teams who battled the elements along with us.
Best 73, Phil -- KF9US
