06/18/2003 | K1MMH This was my first foray into contesting. In fact, this is my first solo operating effort. My thanks to N1RL for the loan of a 2 element Raibeam antenna and coax and to K7BV for his tramping about in the rain to erect the "monster" that closely resembles a crucifix. After a test contact with K7BV, I was on the air. I tuned up and down the band a couple of times on Sat afternoon with no activity. But later in the evening I made my first contacts... a total of 8 in all, mostly in FN31, with one in FN42. Thanks to these two "elmers" for all their help. -- K1MMH
