2003 ARRL June VHF Contest

06/20/2003 | KG4BMH I had a fun time operating this contest. Even though 50MHz was hot I didn't linger very long on that band, because I had a very mediocre antenna.

144MHz was down from last year in participation. Saturday 2 meters saw a little enhancement to the Mid-West. I went to bed late Saturday night with 38 Grids under my belt knowing full well that Sunday would provide me with an outstanding score on 144MHz. As it worked out it never happened as conditions Sunday was quite flat on 2 Meters.

I missed hearing some of the stations and multipliers that I normally work during the contests { like EM39, EM48, EM47, EM35, EM53, EN41, and EN71}, this also marks the first contest in quite some time that I didn't work any VE {Canada} stations on 144MHz.

I was very glad to hear John N8UM and other rovers activate EM87, maybe next year someone will operate with a fairly well equiped staion from EM97 {EM97 is a very rare one that alot of people still need on 144MHz and above}..

I must give Kudos to a Multi-op group that was a new comer on the block, as I heard K9NS EN52 in EM76 for the majority of the contest on 144MHz. Those guys worked alot of people and should rank well, right up there with such limited multi-op big guns as K8CC, AA4ZZ, W4IY, W7XU and others.

Ok here is my final breakdown:......................................

KG4BMH EM76 SOLP

........QSOs....Mults...............................................

50MHz .. 10 ..... 9

144MHz .. 98 .... 41

Total: 5,400 Pts.....................................................

Thanks for all the contacts and participation, I had a blast.....
