2003 ARRL June VHF Contest

07/02/2003 | K9AKS Another fun contest. This year I went back to an old favorite site on a bluff above the Mississippi River near Reno, Minnesota. Our "old" multiop groups had used the site in the 1970s (W0OHU) and 1980s (W9UD); but our first time there was in 1959 (W9YCR/0)!
I operated QRP portable again. Six meters on Saturday was great. I managed to pick off quite a few grids Unfortunately, when the band opened again Sunday evening, it did so with the same geographic pattern and I found only two new stations to work. The other bands were average at best. Weather was excellent, the corn around me was growing fast, and the cows broke into the field only once during the contest. -- K9AKS
