2003 ARRL June VHF Contest

07/05/2003 | N2MH/R The Lighthouse Rover embarked on another adventure for the June contest. True to its name, we operated from at least one lighthouse. This time, Karen and I started the contest at the Montauk Point Light (ARLHS USA-512) on Long Island. Our route took us west through Long Island and finally to a local overlook near home in NNJ on Saturday night. Sunday morning, we started the day at the same local overlook, headed up to High Point, NJ and then followed I-81 north to FN14/FN24 stopping at several locations along the way.

We had our best contest ever, with a final score 56,160. The 6m band opening at the beginning of the contest was a welcome surprise. And, we had a chance to work many of the same skip stations again on Sunday night when 6m opened up again, this time to northern NY. (It was fun explaining to some of them that they could work us again because we had gone to a new grid square. I guess some stations never get to work a rover!) Along our route we returned to some previous sites that we've operated from in the past and visited some new sites that we scoped out in the weeks before the contest. All in all, we had a great time.
