2003 ARRL June VHF Contest

07/15/2003 | KC4PX The June VHF Contest from EL98QG in Florida reminded me of my Contest Days in New Jersey, the VHF Alley of the North East. During the first four (4) hours of the contest, 6 meter contacts resulted in a run rate of 100+ per hour. Florida was open to the entire North East, Mid-West, then West Coast. In fact, up until Midnight, the first 10 hours of the contest was all 6 meter activity. Sunday continued to be a 6 meter contest with the band open to the North East at noon, followed by open conditions the rest of the contest to Mid-West and West Coast. Final tally on 6 was 950 Qs and 263 Grids. Looks like Florida is now competitive with the North East.

More and more HAMS in Florida are getting on the VHF, UHF and SHF bands. I had a blast competing with NW5E in Orlando. Lost total points to him by 10k, However I believe we both are in the top 10 in North America for Single Op High Power. This is my BEST effort in any VHF contest, thanks to the 6 Meter E's.

All bands up to 2304 were active from my QTH, however the 903 Transverter could not transmit so no QSOs. In September I will have 903 active.

Band Totals:
Total Points 338,148

(6Meters 950/263) (2Meters 54/17) (222Mhz 8/4) (432Mhz 24/11) (903Mhz -) (1296Mhz 8/4) (2304Mhz 6/4)
