2003 ARRL Field Day

06/30/2003 | N9LTT The Columbus (Indiana) Amateur Radio Club conducted Field Day operations at Mill Race Park in Columbus. There were several firsts for us this year. This was the first year we were in Mill Race Park. We really liked the facility and it was a great place to set up our operation. The other fist was the donation of a 60 foot JLG lift. We used it to put a G5RV high up in the trees. Then we mounted our HF tribander and UHF/VHF beam to the basket and extended it to full height.

We had several new hams involved with some getting on HF for the first time. Our non-traditional mode demos generated a lot of interest and we had a blast trying to work several satellites even though we didn't make a contact.

Several visitors stopped by to ask questions and many people driving by gawking at the spectacle of a 60 foot boom lift fully extended with antennas mounted to it. Not an everyday site for a city park in southern Indiana! -- N9LTT
