06/30/2003 | WB6MIA We are proud to be the first EOC activated as a Categotry 2F Field Day station from San Luis Obispo County, Santa Barbara Section. We operated for 6 hours from ECC-15, a new center located in the Oceano, CA office of the San Luis Obispo Sheriff's department under Lt. Ben Hall. Participants were from the San Luis Obispo Emergency Communications Council, our local ARES/RACES organization. Some of our particpants had never experienced HF operation and are now bitten by the HF bug! We familiarized ourselves with newly installed HF and VHF/UHF radios in the process and learned the effective coverage area of our HF longwire on several bands.
