2003 ARRL Field Day

07/01/2003 | K5EEE Had a great time. It is getting harder to do 24 hrs alone as I get older!!! Propagation was very unusual from FL this year. 10m and 15m were about useless. Skip on Saturday seemed extra long as I worked tons of VE and New England stations--more than normal. Later, with the beam pointed towards OR, I noted a lack of contacts that I usually get from CA and CO. On Sunday, the skip was much shorter with NC, SC, TN, VA, WV, AL and GA dominating the log.

It is always interesting to participate. I ran entirely on batteries as class 1E (100W) and about drained one of my batteries. I had 120 AH in reserve. Next year, I will call more and drain all the electrons out ouf those batteries. Calling more this year than last netted me about an increase of about 33% in my score as I topped 575 contacts. Next year, the goal is 700!!!

Thanks to everyone out there for participating, especially those who answered my meager call. It is always fun!
