2003 ARRL Field Day
Great weather makes for a great fieldday.
This is certainly true for the Shelbyville Radio Club which set up camp outside the old firehouse, command post of the local Red Cross.
Harlan, K4HJ provided his call-sign as well as a very nice ICOM 756, much appreciated by the 40 meter CW operator. Thanks again, Harlan.
John, K3OB brought a mysterious wire groundplane which he had put together according to an article in QST a while ago, but never tested. Well, whatever this thing was, it worked like a moon rocket on 40 meters. We logged about 500 contacts there, SSB and CW. Other antennas were a G5RV used mainly for 20 and an end-fired sloper for 80.
Conditions above 20m were down, as expected, so we focused on 20 and 40 instead. 80 yielded a number of hard earned contacts as well, Saturday night and Sunday morning.
It was a great weekend and we had lots of fun. Thanks again to all our supporters and we hope to see you again next year! If you live in our area, by all means, come visit!
