07/09/2003 | WA2GUG This year there were a lot of improvements for the RECWA crew; but Murphy's law prevailed. We improved our antennas with two mono band dipoles on 20 and 40 and a dual band "J" pole for VHF and UHF. Solar cells were added to keep the back up batteries fully charged. I broke down and bought an IC706MKIIG. KB2QLE, and WA2EQH never expected my truck to blow a coil 30 miles from our final destination and we forgot my packet gear in it after I had it towed. Oh and two other hams had last minute commitments; so we did the iron man for 20 hours. I had to put to geather a packet station from Joe's [QLE] APRS tracker to send our traffic and then put it back on APRS Who knows next year the Barbie may break down!!!! -- WA2GUG
