2003 ARRL Field Day

07/14/2003 | K4HRS The Harris-Intersil Amateur Radio club just received their Vanity Call Sign of K4HRS and participated in Field Day Activities in Melbourne Florida. K4HRS (Kilowatt Four Ham Radio Station) operated Field Day class 2A at the Wickham Park Boy Scout Camping area with two donated Cherry-Pickers as antenna supports.

Operation composed of station one located in a 26 foot moving Van, station 2 in the site pavilion and our GOTA station in a 10x10 tent. This year our antenna system was key in our success of running pile ups on 20 and 15 meters A Monoband HyGain 205BA at 80 feet and HyGain 155BA and 105BAs at 60 feet were used along with a two element delta loop for 40 Meters and a Double Extended Zep for 80 meters.

Most of our operation was conducted on 20 meters with excellent conditions all over North America When we needed to rotate the antenna. We fired-up the Cherry-Picker and rotated the base putting up the antennas was also a breeze.no more towers for next year. 10 and 80 meters was dead along with our generator at 1AM in the morning. Sunday we had to keep the 20 meter station on the air with Batteries charged using our solar array. Our GOTA station also used the Solar Array and Windmill for power. Visitors to our site were amazed by our capability to provide communication using solar power.

Thanks to all for their support in making this a great Field Day

Ivars, KC4PX
